[edit] Land Creatures
[edit] Ambryard
Clymine: These small feline-like creatures are easily tameable, however many run rampant through streets and towns due to neglect from their owners. The tufts on their ears are very tall and feathery and are a brighter color that complements their more neutral fur over their body. The same color tufts of fur on their ears also reappear under their chin as well as the ends of their three tails. They are very speedy animals and are capable of missing any dangerous situation due to light feet. Their hind legs are almost as long as their entire torso so they are capable of springing into a quick run when necessary.
Fameni: Small rodent-like creatures with long, flappy, furry ears that barely drag the ground. They range from a few inches to a foot or so in height and are often seen wallowing around heavily wooded areas such as Selverde Forest and Oscurleda Woods, but also enjoy living in grassy or sparsely wooded regions. They feed mostly on grass and insects as well as tiny plants. Their fur is extremely soft and might be used for coats, and their skins are most commonly used for small fist size pouches. While these animals aren't supposed to be contained, they could make a very loveable pet if tamed to be so.
[edit] Ambridge
Blue Teakbill: This amphibious bird is one of the more identifiable out of the Teakbill species, with their fluffy blue plumage. Pocket-size, these aquatic birds have the webbed feet, yellow bill, and pale round eyes typical of their breed. They nest in hollow logs and shallow mud banks, choosing to make territories around the fast flowing mountain rivers of Ubella, where they're most commonly found. A Blue Teakbill's wings are quite stubby, but they are still capable of flying- they depend on flight to retrieve their favored food, dragonflies and moths. Usually one cannot tell the difference in gender of the small teakbill, but a good way is to listen to their calls. Sounding like a rattling "teeeak" growl, a female is low pitched and the male is ear-piercingly high. They make a loving companion if trained right, but try to stay away from a female during nesting season!
Feilunk: Feilunk (Lunk for short) sort of resemble the big cats of earth with many exceptions. Those found in the Ambridge region are lighter that their heavy duty cousins in the Halyard region the Folump. They are mainly carnivorous, though have been known to eat vegetation if food is scarce. This creature hisses and claws when it feels threatened and indeed have no roar. They stand roughly six feet and are about that long. Their forms are lithe and sleek with powerful haunches for propelling them forward as high speeds over even the most unforgiving terrain. They are complete with three foot tails which are thin and come to a wide ball at the end, to stabilize them as they power over the landscape. Tick hooked, retractable claws dig into the earth as they run. Their eyes are predatory in nature, and range the color spectrum, all vibrant colors which in darkness literally glow. The large pointed ears atop their heads plaster back whilst they run or fight, to keep them from danger. They have short snouts which delicate jowls to hide their perfectly white teeth. Their fur is fine and silken in nature, smooth and usually has the brightest of sheen upon it, this ranges from pure white to pitch black, usually the fur resembles the areas for which they were raised, always starting as white and changing to match. They are incapable of greens and blues however.
Gompt: The Gompt is a medium sized livestock for the kingdom of Ambridge (Resembling Earth's cow). It grows to roughly five feet tall and seven feet long. Though it is long the massive weight it carries with it causes it to appear more bulky than lengthy; in fact a good Gompt would be considered one with a belly which nearly touches the ground. The meat is usually quite tender from most of the animal, and strangely tends to absorb the fat and grow itself. These creatures are featured by flatter snouts and large bucked front teeth; designed to assist in ripping up plants by roots; large eyes seem to nearly bug out of their skulls. Their hide is thick and used for mainly armor crafting, as little needs be done to reinforce it. They don no tail, and males tend to grow two stubby horns from the back of their skulls.
Laquid: First sighted in Lake Willow, these large squid-like creatures are known to grow as large as 12 feet long. Their bodies are for the most part gelatinous and therefore able to survive at extreme depths. Thanks to a set of rotary fins on either side of their body, they can reach top speeds of 23 mph. The defining feature of the Laquid is the beak. A long, pointed protrusion from the front of their bodies, reaching almost 5 feet in length in the larger varieties. This beak opens into four parts, each lined with a row of teeth ideal for pulling any prey into the sole orifice of this creature, where its innards instantly digest the captive food. It's also plausible that the creature may use the beak to skewer its prey first, then open the beak from within, killing and serving the remains in one deadly move. Beyond these features, the Laquid is well known to be blind, surviving partially on luck. They are known to charge lake shores from time to time in a desperate search for food. Otherwise, it is assumed they swim through the lake constantly in search of food.
Toscima: A small rodent creature that can change the color of its fur to match its surroundings. They have thick, long tails which they can use for grasping, and larger than expected paws with opposable thumbs. They are not capable of intelligent speech, but they are known for their high pitched screeching. Their cheeks also slightly bulge out because their tongues are long enough to snap things out of the air, the top of it being rough enough to do so. They are native to the Selverdan Grasslands, but many have been spotted in other areas due to their great ability to travel and hide flawlessly. Unfortunately they are very good prey for other animals and even the most desperate of Miruvors or Brigoans, due to the fact that their meat is nutritious and tender. They are intelligent enough to be kept as pets, and it is not the strangest thing to see someone with a tamed, disciplined, Toscima with them. They can make quite good pets, and even be taught a few tricks. Their small stature and small brains do not make them as dumb as one would think.
[edit] Brygon
Tabaird: A bird the size of a small dog, that is most often the sea-fairing's worst enemy. These avian are noted for their large beaks, singular foot, and bright plumage that ranges from red to light blue depending upon sex and diet.[edit] Mediares Island
Rocuda: An intimidating species of behemoth predatory birds, who most commonly roost or structure their nests on the cliff faces of Northern Mediares. Imagine a wingspan similar to that of a small aircraft (approximately 30-35 feet), and you'll have the same length of a Rocuda's wings, from tip to tip depending on the age or gender. Their feathers are hatched with browns and blacks, with rings of white on the outermost wing tips. And if size wasn't a distinguishing feature enough, then the bright gold colour that dominates a Rocuda's fluffy breast feathers certainly is. With a beak and talons built to mortally wound even the biggest of land mammals, it comes as a surprise to many that a Rocuda primarily feeds on large fish and mollusks that wash up on shores. However, do not mistake this for a tame nature, as some have tried to use a Rocuda Eagle as a flying steed and the results are consequentially.. fatal. Rocudas migrate to Halyard during winter, but are more then prepared to spend a few weeks in the snow if necessary.
[edit] Halyard
Folump: Folump (or Lump) closely resemble the Ambridge feilunk (though are slightly more like Earth's Grizzle bear). They are strictly carnivorous, and have been known clean the whole carcass of an Ambridge gompt in little over two hours. The creatures are the tanks of the Halyard region, easily over sizing a Vitha with their towering seven foot height and eight food length. They have no tail, as they are not meant for speed but power, and the short bob tail only causes the creature to look bulkier. Their snouts are shorter than those of a feilunk, and their faces are wider, with larger eyes that glow same as their Ambridge cousins. Their ears are not as large, and are rounded at the tips, though the same as a feilunk the ears plaster back when they run or fight. Unlike the feilunk, the folump is capable of creating an earth shaking roar. Other than those differences, it is essentially the same as the Ambridge feilunk. It is a miracle these creatures can be trained and tamed.
Hequad: The hequad is a large swine-like creature. It spends most of the day sleeping. It is a nocturnal herbivore, and forages at night when other predators aren't hunting. It is a dirt coloured brown, and because it rolls in the soil to remove its scent, it can sometimes pick up seeds and plants. These can grow on its fur, using the rain for food, and this adds to his camouflage during the day. It will charge if woken during the day, and the females have slightly larger tusks than the males to protect the young. It lives in the Oscurleda Woods, and attempts to move them to the Selverde forest, because of their meat, have so far been unsuccessful.
Mirkak: Not a creature you want to come across in the dark. Or at all even. They most resemble bats, only much larger. Generally they range from about 4-5 feet in length from head to toe, with large leathery wings that grow along with the creatures, matching their length nearly exactly. They are completely bald, and when they're wings are folded about their hunched forms they vaguely resemble a Miruvor in appearance, and can make sounds similar to the sounds one would make when crying, or hurt. Due to their size they are able to eat just about anything that they can manage to capture. They are purely carnivorous and possess a very voracious appetite. They will lure and bait their prey into following them into shadows before springing on them, encircling them with their wings, and depending on the size they may unhinge and separate the lower jaw to enlarge the size of the opening with which they eat. However these beasts are exceedingly rare and can only be found in Osculerda Woods. Though chances are if you encounter one of these it found you, not the other way around.
Vitha: Native to Vithantu Bog, these are large cat-like animals. They are closer to Earth's version of a lion, with the strong bodies andmanes. The only difference is that these cats are completely black with yellow eyes and a fierce, red mane. They have no elemental abilities. Instead they rely on their superior speed and power to take down foes. While both genders have the manes, male's are much larger. Females are just smaller overall. It should also be mentioned that eating the meat of a Vitha would drive a person absolutely insane. This is due to certain chemicals found in their meat, whether it is cooked or raw. Never try to eat one!
[edit] Sea Creatures
[edit] Carozeth Ocean
Carozeth Dorsalus: Large all white creature inhabiting the waters of the Carozeth Ocean. The massive creatures span roughly one-hundred feet from tail to nose. The strange black eyes are suspended by stalks which give them a full view of their surroundings. Their massive jaws do not hinge open up and down, but rather split side to side, with four rows of huge black teeth lining the inside. Gigantic Dorsal fins stand nearly twenty feet straight above the water when they are preparing to attack. They are known for attacking ships and fully destroying them.
Hefaquine: Hefaquines have long bodies, and a tail that is reminiscent of a whale. Other than that, they are strangely close to the... elephant of Earth. Yet, underwater. They have light blue, almost gray, smooth skin, and tusks stick out from each side of their long trunks like coral. In fact, their tusks are pink. Their trunk has many purposes. There are two, large holes, which are used for breathing. The trunk can also be used as a blunt weapon, or grappling on to things. Their thick legs end in large toes, which are separate, opposable, and webbed. They are herbivores naturally, so their body cannot process meat. Their dull, long teeth also support this.
Skirtrey: An advanced scavenger species of jelly, these animals are usually six inches to a foot large. Their namesake is the large circular fin that extends from the base of its head to well past the flagellum that extend from the end of its stout, triangular body, which are an opalescent colour that starkly contrasts the inky black of its head and underlying body which can be seen through the translucent bell. Unlike most forms of jellies, the actual body of the Skirtrey had some bones, most notably its cartilage skull and the thousands of teeth that occupy is circular, sucking mouth. They live most of their lives attached by the thousand to Dorsalus in the sea, but can be found upon other large sea creatures. The Skirtrey is also capable of exiting the sea and actually fly above its surface, but not for extended periods of time due to its body being mostly water. This species makes a very notable use of this ability whence a Dorsalus attacks a ship, and the whole “bloom” takes to the air and uncharacteristically attack the sailors.
